USA has been debating about healthcare reform now for about a century but nothing meaningful has emerged.
Today, in a historical moment, the reform has taken a step further towards the goal of healthcare reform. The senate finance committe today voted 14-10 to approve a bill. There are several other bills that have come out of other committees.
None of the bills are ideal. And there remains to be a large work to be done. However, one must take pride in the fact that the process has moved to next step.
None of the bills at this time offer any credible plan for cost cutting which I think is more important than anything else. In addition, the idea of penalizing people for not having health insurance is bad…as there are people who will not be able to afford even if they want to. The current bill is a bit towards offering more people access to healthcare but not to all – which is a big disappointment.
The cost reductions are mostly by spreading the risks than real cost savings. AND WITHOUT THE REAL COST SAVINGS, THIS MONSTER IS COMING BACK EVEN STRONGER.
