On Saturday, the US Senate voted to debate the massive healthcare overhaul legislation.  Note that a bill by the house was passed few weeks ago.

In the Senate, there has been fear that the GOP may not even allow the debate to proceed.  After a long debate on Saturday, the motion to proceed further was approved mostly along the party line vote.

Republicans have a genuine point.  The bill proposed does not do enough to cut cost.  Neither it is providing coverage to all.  Still about 6% of the Americans will be left without insurance.  That is an improvement from the current number of about 16%.

But as long as even one person is dying because of lack of healthcare or even one person is losing his/her house because of the medical bill, it is will be shame.

Let us watch and listen what comes out of these debates and what is in the bill.  What we need is

  • lower cost
  • focus on wellness
  • coverage for all without their health status
  • eliminate waste

Our metric should not be how many we can cure; it should be how many do not need care.

Why are we not putting focus on that!  It not only requires healthcare reform but a social reform. As we know that most of the diseases are due to unhealthy mind.

WE MUST MAKE MENTAL HEALTH AN INTEGRAL PART OF THE CARE.  Right now, it is isolated.
