In the last several months, there has been debate for the need to healthcare reform and also many making the claim that there is nothing wrong with our healthcare system – note US does not have healthcare system as noted by Sen. Bill Frist.

Now the chance of passing a healthcare bill which had lot of good and bads in it is close to nill.  There is more posturing now than real work.

In the midst of these debates, the report for US Healthcare expense has come out.  US spend $2.412 trillion on healthcare in 209.  YES! whopping $2.412 trillion.  This is 17.3% of GDP as compared to 16.6% in 2008.  It also amounts to about $282 million per hour.

We are spending 17 cents of every dollar we consume on our health but we are not very healthy.  Look at just the obesity around us.  Most of states have over 20% of population Obese.  Yes that is almost one person per family assuming family size is bigger than 4.

Healthcare prices rose about 3.2% while the utilization of services rose by 1.5%

This is also in contrast to popular belief that due to lack of insurance, people are postponing their doctor visits.  In fact, if you look at the number of hospitals gone through financial trouble through 2009 does not seem to indicate any rise in healthcare revenue.

You then wonder, where is all the money going?
